Every community has its stories—but not every community celebrates them quite like Taos. This December, the art of storytelling takes center stage once again as PechaKucha Taos returns for its second evening of creativity, laughter, and local voices on Wednesday, December 10, at the Taos Center for the Arts (TCA).
If you’ve never experienced a PechaKucha before, you’re in for a treat. The format was born in Tokyo in 2003, created by architects Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham of Klein Dytham architecture. They wanted a more engaging way for designers to share their work without rambling—so they came up with a fast-paced, visual format: 20 slides, 20 seconds each. The result? A concise, energetic, and often moving storytelling experience that’s since spread to over 1,200 cities around the world.
The word PechaKucha (pronounced peh-chak-cha) means “chit-chat” in Japanese, which perfectly captures its spirit. Presentations can range from personal journeys and creative projects to local history, humor, or wild adventures—anything that connects people through the power of story.
Over the years, PechaKucha events in Taos came and went, occasionally flickering back to life but never fully rooted. Now, thanks to the enthusiasm and dedication of Jay Vosper and Jessica Thomas, the flame has been reignited. Their mission? To bring Taos’ unique voices back to the stage—artists, makers, entrepreneurs, adventurers, and storytellers—each sharing a slice of life that reflects the vibrancy of our mountain town.
This upcoming event marks their second PechaKucha night in Taos, and the excitement is already building. Hosted at the TCA, the evening will feature a lineup of local storytellers ready to entertain, inspire, and remind us of how rich this community truly is.
In a world where attention spans are short and screens dominate, PechaKucha offers something refreshingly human—an evening of real connection, creativity, and laughter. It’s storytelling distilled to its purest form: visual, heartfelt, and brimming with energy.
Whether you’re a longtime Taoseño or new to town, this is one event you won’t want to miss. Join in the magic, support local storytellers, and see how PechaKucha is once again finding its voice in Taos.
